Rohit Sharma likely to opt out of England Test series after BGT disappointment

BCCI to finalize Rohit Sharma’s role as Test captain ahead of the England series. Reports hint at major changes in India’s squad for the five-match series.

As per the earlier reports, Rohit Sharma was to be named as captain in the test match against England right after the IPL 2025. Even after continuous failure as a captain in the test series against Australia, Rohit was named as skipper but in recent developments around the game, a new report has emerged in PTI. As per the fresh reports, Rohit is likely to opt out of the series and will not lead the team as captain for the bilateral tour. 

Following, Rohit Sharma has decided not to move forward in the England tour and opt out of the same. India is set to play a five-match test series against England later, after the IPL in June, and now the captain has made the bold move.

As per reports it is learned that Rohit has taken this decision in favor of the team and also keeping in mind the last time defeat against Aussies in the BGT where he led the team. However sources also said that Virat Kohli will likely retain his spot in the test team.

BCCI to decide RO-KO future with Central Contracts expected soon

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not announced the list of central contracts for this year yet, and according to a report by Dainik Jagran, it can have some big news for the senior members of the Indian cricket team. As per the report, the discussion around the central contracts and future of senior men team members in an expected meeting on 29 March at Guwahati. Along with it, the committee will also discuss the squad for the England Test Series which is scheduled to start on June 20, 2025 after the Indian Premier League winds up.

The report further said that “the selection committee is divided about the future of some of India’s big stars” and the new list may carry surprises for the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja. It added that the future of the stars will become clearer following the announcement.

As of now, no official announcement has been made on either side. Until one comes out officially, Rohit Sharma will lead the England Test Team as a Test Captain for the Men In Blue.

BCCI to Announce Squad During IPL 2025

BCCI will likely announce the squad during IPL Knockouts to gain more clarity on which players will be available. By the time of Knockout, only four teams will be involved in the clash, and the remaining teams’ squads will be available to play.

The five-Test series is set to begin in Headingley on June 20. “The first four-day match will be hosted at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury from May 30. The second match is scheduled to begin a week later on June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
