The Indian Premier League has resumed after the suspension of a week. Punjab Kings faced Rajasthan Royals in a Sunday double-header match 59 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Winning the Toss, Punjab Kings opted to bat first and asked the home team to field first. Due to players’ unavailability after the rescheduling of the IPL, both the teams made some changes to their line-ups and announced the alternatives to players who are missing in the second phase of the league, and amongst those changes, Punjab Kings announced Mitchell Owen, giving him a chance to make his Debut.

Who is Mitchell Owen?

Mitchell Owen is a 23-year-old Australian all-rounder who made his IPL debut replacing Marcus Stoinis against the Rajasthan Royals. The young player has gained a lot in his short career so far. Born on September 16, 2001, in Hobart, Tasmania, is a 23-year-old all-rounder. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. Standing tall at 6 feet 4 inches (1.94 meters), Owen started his pro cricket career with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, making his T20 debut on January 12, 2021. He has also represented Tasmania in both List A and first-class formats.

Coming from Tasmania, Mitchell announced himself to cricket with the Big Bash League and he not just made his debut, he made it remarkable. In the final of the 2024 season of the BBL, he smashed 108 from just 42 balls and helped his team chase down a target of 183 against Sydney Thunder. Further he ended the season with 452 runs from 11 innings.

Overall, he has played a total of 35 T20s and has accumulated 647 runs with a strike rate of 183.80 and an average of 24.88. He has played first-class and List A cricket and would be hoping to make a strong impression in his maiden IPL stint. Before coming into the IPL, Mitchell was part of the PSL.
