A physical fight broke out during a four-day unofficial match series between Bangladesh and South Africa’s emerging teams in Mirpur. On the second day of the ongoing series, Bangladesh batter Ripon Mondol hit a six on delivery of South Africa’s spinner Tshepo Ntuli, which didn’t settle well with the off-spinner, leading to a heated exchange of glares and a physical contact ugly fight between the two.
The incident started with ugly stares when Ntuli got hit for a six, both players exchanged angry looks, which quickly turned into a physical fight when Ntuli grabbed Mondol’s helmet and punched him twice. The fight was soon joined by other players of the team, and an on-field umpire, Kamruzzaman, had to step in to break up the fight. No immediate action has been taken regarding the incident, as umpires are set to report the incident to officials, and soon after the report, sanctions will be imposed on the respective players involved.

“This is extreme, this is unacceptable. Normally, we see verbal altercations in a cricket field, but we don’t often see a scuffle. Ntuli struck Ripon’s helmet at one point,” said commentator Nabil Kaiser during the match. Even after the fight, things stayed tense. This didn’t stop here with the fight, right after three balls, then this incident, Ntuli later threw the ball angrily at Mondol after he blocked a delivery.
South Africa’s Emerging team hasn’t had an easy time on their tour of Bangladesh. Things first got heated during the one-day matches in Rajshahi, where a fight in the second game led to suspensions for Andile Simelane and Jishan Alam. Both players had to miss the third match.
As reported by ESPN, the match referee will submit the reports of the incident to both boards, BCB and CSA, who will further announce sanctions and actions regarding the matter.
Both teams are playing their final game of the tour, which is a four-day red ball format match. Africa has already lost the one-day series 2-1, and the first four-day match ended in a draw. With the ugly fight scenes and poor performance on the board, they are hoping to end the tour on a better note, both in terms of performance and behavior.
