Soon after Indian Test Captain Rohit sharma retired from test cricket, another people’s favorite batter, Virat Kohli, has expressed his intent to retire from Test Cricket. As per the newly emerged reports and sources close to BCCI, He has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India and communicated his intention of stepping down from the longest format of the game. “He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” sources told the Indian Express

The 36-year-old batter is likely to retire ahead of the England tour and will be unlikely to be part of the test squad for the Men In Blue. Although he has expressed his intent to step down, it seems like the team management is not ready to let him go and has asked him to reconsider his decision. Yet there are no reports that Kohli desires to even overturn his decision, the one which he has been contemplating since the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Kohli had an average of over 50+ plus, but last year’s BGT wasn’t great, and he could only score 190 runs in 5 matches and 9 innings with an average of 23.75.

Seems like Kohli has made up his mind

As per the reports, it is evident that the star veteran is considering retiring and has also conveyed it to the management for the same. For now, the BCCI has asked the player to rethink his decision and will wait for the next answer from the player. But if Kohli came up with the same decision, then the Indian Team will face another big blow ahead of the England tour, and India will go with an inexperienced side.

As per developments around the England Tour, Rohit Sharma has retired from the format and given up the leadership. Jasprit Bumrah is also under close observation due to his injuries. Now, if Kohli retires, then it will be a totally inexperienced side with the Captain soon to be named.

Kohli’s Career

King Kohli has played a total of 123 Tests and has accumulated a total of 9230 runs, playing with an average of 46.85. Kohli made his Test Cricket debut in the year 201,1, and from then on, he has smashed 30 centuries and 31 half centuries in the format. If he announces his retirement officially, then he will retire as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in the red ball cricket format.
