Have you ever seen a game so close, they had to break the tie not once, not twice, but three times? No right, but that’s exactly what unfolded on a Monday evening in Glasgow between the Netherlands and Nepal match. For the first time in T20 History, like in all of T20 History, a men’s International cricket match needed three super overs to get the winner. Nepal and the Netherlands played out one of the most dramatic matches in T20 history. For the first time, a match went into a third super over before a winner was finally declared, and it was the Netherlands who held their nerve and came out as winners.

History was recorded with three super overs in Glasgow

Batting first, the game started normally, where the Netherlands put up 152/7 and then invited Nepal for the chase. Nepal’s chase had its ups and downs, but thanks to power hitting by Rupesh Kumar Singh and Nandan Yadav, they managed to tie the score and took the match to a super over. Following this was another rollercoaster. In the first Super over, Nepal smashed 19 runs, but the Dutch batters responded with the same energy and tied it again. Then came the second super over, Netherlands put up another 17 runs but Nepal matched it once more, with a last-ball six by Dipendra Singh Airee. By this time, all were waiting for the result and then folded the third super over, which finally gave a result to the thrilling clash.

The third super over saw a big twist, Netherlands spinner Zach Lion-Cachet dismissed two Nepal batters, including Rohit Paudel and debutant Rupesh Singh for zero, leaving his team with a little score to chase. Needing just 1 run for victory, the Netherlands’ star batter Michael Levitt made it look easy, hitting a six on the very first ball to seal a historic win. Lion was later named as the player of the match for his contribution
