Bangladesh Cricketer and all-rounder Nasir Hossain has returned to competitive cricket and has been cleared by the ICC to play. The 33-year-old was banned for two years for breaching the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption code in September 2023, and now, after completing all aspects of the ban period, He has been cleared by the ICC to restart his cricketing career on April 7, 2025.
“As per the terms of the sanction, Nasir Hossain has now fulfilled all requirements, including completing the mandatory Anti-Corruption Education session. This has paved the way for his eligibility to re-enter official cricket as of April 7, 2025,” said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in its official statement. After his official release from the ban, Nasir appeared for Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club in their Dhaka Premier Division League match against Gazi Group Cricketers in Mirpur on Monday.
Anti-Corruption Code Breach and other Charges that led to a 2-year ban
Nasir faced the ban for his constant failure to disclose his assets and was also found associated with the Pune Devils franchise, who were charged by the ICC in September 2023 for corruption.
The first charge against Nasir was that he “failed to disclose to the designated anti-corruption official (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of a gift that was offered to him that had a value of over US$750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12”.
The second charge was that he “failed to disclose to the designated anti-corruption official full details of the approach or invitation he received to engage in corrupt conduct via the new iPhone 12”.
Failing to disclose details, Nasir accepted all the charges and was suspended for six months out of his two-year ban. As per the ICC, Hossain was banned from all forms for two years, with six months of that suspended, in September 2023. He had accepted three charges of breaching the Emirates Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Code during the 2020-21 Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Hossain’s Bangladesh Cricket Career
Hossain has represented Bangladesh in 115 games across all formats of cricket between 2011 and 2018. Playing for the team, he has amassed a total of 6000 runs in First-Class and List A cricket. He has featured in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs, and 31 T20Is games and also has 17 centuries to his name.
Starting cricket after a two-year ban marks an important milestone in his career. He has started afresh in competitive cricket with the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, where he featured for Rupganj Tigers against Gazi Group Cricketers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on the day his suspension was lifted by the ICC.
