The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, defeated Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2025 Eliminator to qualify for the Qualifier 2. Now, MI will clash with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on 1st June in Ahmedabad to qualify for the Final.

Rohit Sharma emerged as the hero with the bat, scoring a brilliant 81 off 50 balls, while Jasprit Bumrah turned the game in MI’s favor with a toe-crushing yorker to dismiss Washington Sundar just when the momentum was shifting towards the Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss in the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans and elected to bat first at Mullanpur Stadium. Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Raj Angad Bawa replaced Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, and Deepak Chahar in MI’s playing XI, while Washington Sundar and Kushal Mendis were named in GT’s XI.

Jonny Bairstow opened the batting for MI for the first time alongside Rohit Sharma. Both batters dominated the power play with their power hitting. MI scored 79 without losing any wickets in the first six overs and carried forward the momentum throughout the inning. While batting first, MI smashed 228 runs in 20 overs, thanks to Rohit Sharma’s 86 runs off 50 balls and attacking knocks from Jonny Bairstow, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya.

GT lost the early wicket of captain Shubman Gill on 1, but later Sai Sudharsan and Kusal Mendis batted well. After Mendis got out in a very rare manner, hit wicket on 20 runs, Washington Sundar came, and both lefties then dominated the game in the middle overs. At one point, it was GT’s game, but then Jasprit Bumrah came with his third over and dismissed the dangerous-looking Sundar on 48 runs off 24 balls with a toe-crushing yorker. Later, Richard Gleeson took the wicket of Sai Sudharsan on 80 runs off 49 balls and almost sealed the win for MI. Ashwini Kumar, Trent Boult, and Richard Gleeson hold their nerves at the end to win the match by 20 runs.
