The final of the champions trophy might not see Kiwis rising star Matt Henry. The player is expected to be ruled out of the Champions Trophy Final, which is set to be played on Sunday, March 9, 2025, against India at the Dubai International Stadium.

The absence of the leading pacer is a big blow to the New Zealand bowling attack, too, right before the final clash. Matt Henry, who has been a pivotal figure in the bowling attack throughout the tournament, might not play in the Final of the series due to his injury. The Pacer got injured while playing the knockout match against South Africa and is facing a shoulder injury.

Matt Henry Injury Incident

Facing South Africa in the semi-final 2 of the ongoing champions trophy, Heny got injured trying to make a catch for Klassen. This incident rolled in the 29th over when Santner bowled to Heinrich Klassen. Trying to bring his trademark pull shot, Klassen hit it but mistimed it, and the ball came off the bottom of his bat, flying towards long-on.

Matt Henry took on the opportunity and sprinted for a catch, and completed a clean catch, dismissing Klaasen for just three runs off seven balls. Though he successfully dismissed Klassen out of the field, he ended up injuring his Right Shoulder and was seen in a lot of pain.

Mitchell Santner’s Update on Henry’s Injury

After the win in the post match conference, Mitchell Santner updated the media about the injury of Matt Henry. He said that Henry has been facilitated with a doctor and getting all the needed nursing care, the team would check and assess his condition before making any big update of him ruling out for the Champions Trophy final.

“Have to wait and see how Matt Henry’s shoulder is. It’s a bit sore, we have to wait for a couple of days and see,” Santner said.

Champions Trophy 2025 Final

Matt Henry, a leading wicket-taker, if ruled out, then the Kiwis would get in the pressure as for the final they are facing winning champions of the league stage and knockout match winner India, who is coming with an advantage of having played all its previous match at the same venue.

Henry has been outstanding in the tournament and helped the team by dismissing India’s top batting orders. He registered a five-wicket haul for New Zealand and dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami.

We will see if Henry returns to continue the horror or if the Black Caps bring a new player to replace him. As the countdown to the final begins, all eyes will be on New Zealand’s camp for updates on their Terrorizing pacer’s condition.
