Hrishikesh Kanitkar likely to coach India A squad on Tour of England

The Men’s Selection Committee has named the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England, where the team will play two first-class matches against the England Lions at Canterbury and Northampton. The tour will conclude with a match against Team India (Senior Men). Announcing the squad, BCCI also announced that Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the side which includes many young talented stars of the Indian Team.

In recent developments around the touring side, Gaurav Gupta, a senior assistant editor of TOI, has revealed that Hrishikesh Kanitkar will be the head coach for the India A Team for the tour of England starting on May 30.

Who is Hrishikesh Kanitkar?

Kanitkar is a former coach of Indian Women team who led the team to Asian games 2022 Gold medal. He has played Two tests and 34 ODI besides having a rich coaching experience under his belt. He was also appointed as the  assistant coach of Kochi Tuskers but then he left the role before the start of the season.

Kanitkar is a left-handed batsman who has played for Rajasthan, MP, and Maharashtra in domestic cricket.  Known for his match-winning boundary against Pakistan, He has scored 10400 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 52 and also has 33 centuries in his illustrious career.

No Gautam Gambhir as Coach for India A

As per various reports, the head coach of the Indian team will most likely leave for England on June 6 after the completion of the ongoing Indian Premier League. He would be accompanied by the first batch of players. Although no confirmation has come from the board yet, or even been made to public’s eyes by any official authorities. Citing the busy schedule of the current head coach, it is estimated that the board will likely appoint Hrishikesh Kanitkar to coach the India A side for the upcoming tour.

After 1st Match: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan will join the squad.
