Rohit Sharma, known as the “Hitman” of cricket, recently led India to its third Champions Trophy title in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final. With this win, the 37-year-old has become the second most successful captain of India in terms of winning ICC trophies. He has two titles, including T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025. He just needs to win the Cricket World Cup to match the legacy of former India captain MS Dhoni of winning all limited-overs ICC titles.
“All Possibilities Are” Open”—Rohit Sharma on Playing 2027 Cricket World Cup
In a Star Sports interview, Rohit Sharma responded to a question about the 2027 Cricket World Cup, saying, “It’s very hard to say that right now,” he said on the prospect of taking part in the showcase in two years’ time, “but I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing. Right now, I’m playing really, really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice. I can’t really say 2027, because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open.”
As long as I’m enjoying the sport, I’m enjoying playing the game, doing what I’m doing for this team, and I will continue to play. It is something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team. The way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them.” He added.
Rohit Sharma led his team to victory in this tournament. He was also named Player of the Match in the big final for his amazing 76-run innings in the 252 chase. From 2023, CWC India has won 23 out of 24 completed matches in ICC limited overs events under his captaincy.
After winning back-to-back ten matches in CWC 2023, India lost the final to Australia in Ahmedabad. This is the only match India lost in the last 24 games in the ICC limited overs tournament. Earlier, Rohit opened up about how badly he wanted the CWC that he missed in 2023, but if all goes well, he will have a chance to get that trophy in 2027.
