Shaik Rasheed joins the list of new debutants of the IPL 2025 season with his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday at the Ekana Stadium. The 20-year-old batter is picked up by the Chennai side as a replacement for injured Devon Conway in today’s playing XI of CSK.

Rasheed is not a newcomer to the CSK squad; he has been with the team since 2023 and was picked up for INR 30 lakhs at the auction. With the ability to bat in different gears, he can be a perfect choice to bat at the top order and will be a crucial choice, especially with CSK struggling in their batting right now. Having him at the top lets CSK arrange their top four better. Rahul Tripathi can come in at No.3, while Shivam Dube can take on the spinners at No.4. This setup could work well for CSK, especially since they’ll be chasing against LSG.

Who is Shaik Rasheed?

Shaik rasheed is the young batter from Andhra and has been a vital player of the domestic franchise. He rose to fame when he smashed a 94 against Australia in the under T20 World Cup 2022. His stint in the World Cup semi-final and final helped the team in lifting the trophy.

Rasheed has been making a name for himself in domestic cricket with consistent performances across different formats. He has played 19 matches scoring 1204 runs in first class cricket, which also includes a double century and seven half centuries. Shaik has also featured in 17 T20s where he has accumulated 352 runs with a strike rate of 127.07 including a century and a fifty.

While he bowls part-time leg spin, Rasheed’s true value lies in his batting at the top order. He has the flexibility to anchor the innings or shift gears when required—qualities that could prove vital for CSK, especially in light of their top-order changes.
