The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended IPL 2025 following a meeting held on May 9. With rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the decision has been made in the interest of ensuring the safety of players, officials, and staff after Pakistan tried to attack several Indian cities.
The news came after the 58th match was also called off midway after reports emerged that Pakistan had attempted an attack on Indian cities near the match venue on the night of May 8, 2025. This raised serious concerns over player safety, leading to a quick evacuation of the stadium. Players and fans were safely escorted to their hotels and homes.
When will IPL 2025 resume?
IPL 2025 has been suspended due to the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. A BCCI official confirmed the suspension of IPL 2025 to PTI, saying, “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war.”
Now, the major question that arises is when the remaining matches of IPL 2025 will be played, as 16 games are still left in the season, including the playoffs.
As of now, there is no official confirmation that has been made by the board regarding the rescheduling, but according to many reports, the remainder of IPL 2025 will be played in September 2025 after the India vs. England Test series, canceling the Asia Cup 2025.
The remaining 16 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 could be played in September by canceling the Asia Cup 2025 in September 2025. The 17th edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament was scheduled to kick off on 17 September, reportedly been cancelled, and the window will be used to complete the remaining IPL 2025.
However, there is no official confirmation made by the BCCI. We recommend fans to wait for the announcement from board regarding the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League 2025.
