MS Dhoni, one of the legends of IPL, has once again left fans guessing about his future in the league. During the toss of the 49th match of the IPL 2025 between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai, Dhoni said, “Currently, I don’t know if I’ll play the next game or not.” This short statement has sparked a wave of retirement talks across the cricket world.

Every season, the legendary former India captain kept fans on edge, wondering about his IPL future over the past few seasons.  Even during IPL 2024, there were speculations that it could be his last season. However, Dhoni surprised everyone by returning in 2025.

The 43-year-old is currently leading the CSK as Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the season due to injury. However, the current season has been disappointing for the team, as CSK ranks at the bottom of the table with just two victories in nine matches and is almost out of the playoffs race.

At the toss during CSK vs PBKS, Danny Morrison asked MS Dhoni, “Look at the reception. Does this mean you’re coming back next year as well?”

The 43-year-old replied, “Currently, I don’t know if I’m playing the next game or not.”

This sparks retirement buzz among fans on the internet. As CSK is almost out of the playoffs contention, there might be a chance of MS Dhoni sitting back to give a chance to any youngster in the upcoming game. Also, there is no clarity on whether MS Dhoni is coming back next season or not.

As a team, Chennai Super Kings struggled in both batting and bowling departments. MS Dhoni has scored 140 runs in IPL 2025 with an average of 28.00 and a strike rate of 142.85 in 9 matches.
