MS Dhoni to lead CSK against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 game tomorrow: Reports

MS Dhoni is most likely to lead the Chennai Super Kings for their upcoming IPL clash against Delhi Capitals. The match is scheduled for 5 April 2025 (Saturday), at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The news surfaced after reports suggested that current captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s recovery remains doubtful. Dhoni is expected to take over the  leadership if Ruturaj fails to recover in time.

Ruturaj, who suffered an elbow injury against the Rajasthan Royals, is under medical treatment and most likely to open. However, if he doesn’t recover in time, then Dhoni will lead the Yellow Army at their home ground on Saturday. Saturday marks a double header in the ongoing Indian Premier League, with CSK set to host DC at Chepauk for the first time at this ground in the afternoon match.

Michael Hussey, batting coach of CSK, indicated about the leadership change in a pre-match conference and said, “Ruturaj Gaikwad’s participation in tomorrow’s game will depend on how well he recovered. He is still sore and we would take a call as to how he bats in the nets today. If he doesn’t play, not sure who will lead. But there is a strong chance that a young wicketkeeper might fill in,” Although an official statement about the recovery and new leadership is yet to be announced officially.

MS Dhoni and IPL Leadership

MS Dhoni, who led the team to five titles, seems to be the perfect choice for the franchise as he is experienced and knows the ground conditions better than anyone. Taking advantage of his experience, it would be a golden opportunity for Chennai to bounce back from their back-to-back defeats and get the team on track.

‘Thala’ last led the team in IPL 2023 Season in the final match against Gujarat Titans before passing the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad for the next season. CSK emerged victorious under Dhoni’s last leadership and won the IPL 2023 Title. Hoping for the same, fans might expect another win under his captaincy.
