IPL 2025 suspended with immediate effect for one week

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended IPL 2025 for one week following rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision has been made in the interest of ensuring the safety of players, officials, and staff after Pakistan tried to attack several Indian cities.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces.

The development came after the 58th match was also called off midway after reports emerged that Pakistan had attempted an attack on Indian cities near the match venue on the night of May 8, 2025. This raised serious concerns over player safety, leading to a quick evacuation of the stadium. Players and fans were safely escorted to their hotels and homes.

When will IPL 2025 resume?

IPL 2025 has been suspended due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. In the suspension announcement, the board stated that the halt is for one week, suggesting that the tournament could resume if the situation improves. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the exact date of resumption.
