IPL 2025, which was suspended on the 9th May due to rising conflict between India and Pakistan, is now likely to resume on Friday after both countries agreed on a ceasefire. All ten franchises are trying to bring back their overseas players as the BCCI is planning to resume the league.

IPL 2025 likely to resume on Friday, 16 May

According to the reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to resume the IPL 2025 on Friday, May 16. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that both countries have agreed on a full and immediate ceasefire.

Trump tweeted, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

After the ceasefire, BCCI is planning to resume the IPL 2025, which was suspended for a week due to the India-Pakistan conflict. Some overseas players left India after the announcement of the suspension of the season, but now all franchises are recalling their players and coaching staff.

Why was IPL 2025 suspended? 

IPL 2025 has been suspended due to the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. A BCCI official confirmed the suspension of IPL 2025 to PTI, saying, “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war.”

A total of 58 matches have been completed in IPL 2025, with 16 games remaining, including the playoffs The 18th edition of the India Premier League was in its final phase but got some serious threats from Pakistan. The 58th match was also called off midway after reports emerged that Pakistan had attempted an attack on Indian cities near the match venue on the night of May 8, 2025. This raised serious concerns over player safety, leading to a quick evacuation of the stadium. Players and fans were safely escorted to their hotels and homes.
