Former England Captain and cricketer has backed the Board For Control of Cricket (BCCI) decision to ban Harry Brook for the next two seasons. He defended the BCCI’s call to ban Harry after the player pulled out for the upcoming Indian Premier League 18th edition. Brook was picked up by Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 at the mega auction. However, he decided to opt out of the season to prioritize his homeland cricket.
Harry Brook took to his social media handles and announced that he will not be playing on DC’s side for the upcoming IPL and will not be available for the whole of the tournament prioritizing his England home cricket. This was the consecutive second season of the player when he chose to pull off the league, last year Brook pulled off the league citing personal reasons and this time to give more to his home cricket.
Following his decision, BCCI has banned him for the next two upcoming seasons of the IPL till 2027 for not adhering to the IPL Rule Book for the tournament.
He’s not injured, rules are rules: Vaughan
Talking about Harry Brook’s suspension from IPL, Micahel Vaughan showed his support to BCCI and said that the rules were known to every player participating in the Mega Auction. He also backed BCCI’s call as a franchise’s plans are derailed once a player backs out at the last minute.
“I think they are right. You put yourself forward. The rules were the rules. They announced them at the end of last year’s IPL. Put yourself into the auction, you say yes, and then you pull yourself out for nothing. He’s not injured, he just had a feeling that he just didn’t want to get over there to play in the IPL. He’s going to stay in the UK,” Vaughan said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.
“I get a feeling he’s probably going to be the white-ball captain for England down the line, so he just wants to focus his attention on England, which all the England fans would be happy with, but I think the IPL had to bring something in because it does derail the franchises in the piece. I don’t think he’s been replaced yet,” he added.
Following the BCCI call over the Ban, Brook became the first player in the IPL History to be banned for two years after the new rules were made. Delhi Capitals is still facing a dilemma of the player replacement and will likely begin with another name for their IPL 2025 Campaign on March 24 against LSG.
