Leading Punjab Kings for the first time, Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant knock, scoring an unbeaten 97 against the Gujarat Titans, falling just 3 runs short of his maiden IPL century. Thanks to his inning, Punjab Kings put up a grand total of 243 in 20 overs. Notably, PBKS bought Shreyas for INR 26.75 crore in the mega-auction, and he justified his price tag in his first match for the franchise.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first at their home, Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, against Punjab Kings. However, the uncapped Indian openers of PBKS responded strongly with an attacking start in the powerplay. Priyansh Arya scored 47 runs off just 23 balls before Rashid Khan trapped him. Then Shreyas Iyer started his show and never looked back. Despite losing Glen Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, he continued his attack, and at last season’s sensation, PBKS, Shashank Singh joined him in the middle. Both batted amazingly well in the last four overs and took PBKS to the massive total of 243 in 20 overs. Iyer smashed 97 runs in 42 balls while Shashank scored 44 runs off just 16 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
