CSK vs MI IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma joins the league of players with most ducks

Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 opener starts on a rough note as Rohit Sharma falls for a duck.

Rohit Sharma joins an unwanted record and becomes the player with the most ducks in the tournament history. It was a day for records, first Rohit became the second most-capped player in the IPL along with a record for the most ducks in his name. Playing against Chennai Super Kings at M A Chidambaram, Mumbai Indians started with a shaky start to their IPL opener season.

Winning the toss, CSK opted to field and bowled first against Mumbai Indians. Coming on the batting line, Rohit Sharma opened for the MI but was soon caught by Shivam Dube after playing three deliveries  bowled by Khaleel Ahmed the opener from CSK front.

Khaleel, opening the bowling attack for the Chennai Super Kings, got rid of the Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma dismissing him for another duck. Khaleel bowled three deliveries to HITMAN and later caught him on the fourth delivery with a catch from Shivam Dube.

The incident folded in the very first over of the MI’s Innings, This dismissal marked Rohit’s 18th duck in the IPL, equalling the earlier records of Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell for most ducks in the tournament history.

  • Glenn Maxwell: 18 ducks
  • Dinesh Karthik: 18 ducks
  • Piyush Chawla: 16 ducks
  • Sunil Narine: 16 ducks

This was Rohit Sharma’s first outing in T20 since winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite his failure in the first match, Rohit will be looking forward to a positive season ahead. 

Following his first innings, Rohit was seen out of the field in the second innings and was replaced by Vignesh Puthur as an impact player. Fans after spotting Rohit with an orange jacket in the team’s stands started to question and speculated about injury issues around the player.
