Topping the list is South Africa’s iconic chase of 438 against Australia Wanderers Stadium in 2006, a match which is often regarded as one of the greatest ODI ever played and most recently Netherlands have made a mark with two monumental chases, one against West Indies in 2023 and the most recent one against Scotland in 2025.

5 Top most highest Successful chase in ODI

1. South Africa vs Australia

The highest and most successful ODI chases are etched in the records for South Africa. Playing in the 5th ODI, South Africa faced Australia on 12th March 2006 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.  In this record-shattering match, Australia posted a mammoth total of 434/4, the then-highest team total in ODI, with the help of Ricky Ponting’s 164, Simon Katich’s 79, and Michael Hussey’s 81. Coming on the chase, Africa turned on its beast mode and chased down the 435 with the key contributions from Herschelle Gibbs’ explosive 175 off 111 balls, Graeme Smith’s 90. These two set the tone, but then Africa went on losing wickets, despite it  Mark Boucher stayed strong and scored an unbeaten fift,y guiding his team to 1 wicket win with just one ball spare. This match not only broke records but redefined boundaries 

2. Netherlands vs West Indies

Another masterclass of cricket in ODI History. Facing in one of the thrilling encounters of 2023 ICC World Cup Qualifier, Netherlands pulled off a historic win against the Indies in Match 18 at the Takashinga Sports Club Harare.facing each other Both teams ended in a tie at 374 runs each and then followed it with a Super over victory for the Netherlands. Batting first, West Indies posted a total of 374/6 with key contributions from Nicholas Pooran, Brandon Kings and Johnson Charles But then, coming on chase, Netherlands responded with fearless intent and ended with a tie total. With this the match headed to a super over, where Logan van Beek turned over the game with his all rounder abilities smashing 30 runs in super over and then defending it with the ball.

3. South Africa vs Australia

South Africa has edged past Australia by 4 wickets in the 3rd ODI of the 2016-17 series at Kingsmead, Durban. Africa successfully chased a mammoth total of 372 runs. Australia’s innings was power-packed with explosive performances from David Warner and Steve Smith. However, Africa responded fearlessly where David Miller scored 118 off 79 balls and later got contributions from the rest members, including Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla. They all chased down the target in 19.2 overs and sealed the series in style.

4. Netherlands vs Scotland

In another record-breaking thriller, the Netherlands pulled off a stunning chase where they defeated Scotland by 4 wickets in the 78th match of the ICC World Cup League 2. Batting first, Scotland posted a total of 369/6 with a key contribution from George Munsey, who smashed 191 off 150 balls, which included 14 fours and 11 sixes. Despite the huge target, the Netherlands showed great intent from the start and later chased down with the help of brilliant unbeaten innings of Maxwell O’Dowd and other efforts from Anil Nidamanuru and Noah Croes.  With just 4 balls in spare, Netherlands sealed a victory finishing at 374/6 in 49.2 overs.

5. England vs West Indies

Facing the West Indies in a bilateral series in 2018-19 at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on 20th February, 2019, England chased down a massive total set by Indies and beat them by 6 wickets. After choosing to bat first, the hosts started with blazing innings from Chris Gayle, where he smashed 135 runs, hammering 12 sixes in his knock and later was supported by Shai Hope and Darren Bravo. All together, they pulled out to put a mammoth score of 360/8 on the scoreboard. England coming on the chase, however, made the chase look simple. Jason Roy set the tone with 123 off 85 balls and later all followed with a special contribution from Joe Root 102, and  Eoin Morgan. Despite good bowling efforts from Jason Holder and D Bishoo, England chased down the target in just 48.4 overs, beating the Home team by 6 wickets.
