Most wickets in career in T20I

As T20 cricket is, by its very nature of being fast and scoring torrents of runs, frequently viewed through the lens of being a batsman. Bowlers have, however (over time) remained at the reckoning of the format, proving themselves invaluable. Through countless generations of team games, many bowlers have learned to score freely in T20 cricket and become match-winders for their teams. Here, we report and analyse the top wicket-takers in T20 Internationals (T20Is) of all time, examining their strategies and techniques and what made them different.

For bowlers, T20 cricket still asked something different from them. Contrary to Test cricket where the bowlers have the time to wait and shape a batsman, T20s require instant impact. Good bowlers still have to be able to vary their pace, get down with a slower delivery and have their yorkers spot on. They also format’s high-risk aspect implies that most batsmen, who are forced into aggressive fearless strokes are rewarded by bowlers. The 2007 introduction of T20 cricket has changed the game, and since then, bowlers are much better at playing in a 20-over match than earlier. The variety has been enhanced with spinners that deceive through flight and turn, and pace bowlers that do it with pure speed and accuracy.

The development of T20 batsmen, and franchise leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has been paramount. The best way to improve as a bowler, is leagues give them a stage to be perfect in front of the world-class batsmen. Rashid Khan has been able to break records in the IPL and now he is pounding bowling better on an international level as well. Similarly, builders like Jasprit Bumrah and Sunil Narine have used their franchise experiences to be game-changers for the national XI.

Bowlers will also have to keep innovating in the future, as T20 cricket readjusts and evolves. The future of T20 bowling will be defined by mystery spinners, dismissal strategy through data analytics and fitness and adaptability at the crease. Already young bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Naveen-ul-Haqq have shown much promise with the chance of what’s to come from these two breeds very important for next-generation t20 greats.
