Following England, South Africa has registered itself in the queue of the highest score as a nation in ODIs. With 5 total above 400 Score, they as a nation demonstrated that they had the power to dismantle any team’s bowling order and also made them one of the most formidable teams in ODI history.

England has achieved this fate four times in total where they sit in the top three spots of the top five. They have etched their name in the record book by setting a total of 498/4 against the Netherlands on the Amstelveen Ground. This unbreakable record for the team was set on 17 June 2022 where they won the match with a gap of 232 runs.

Player of the match was awarded to Jos Butler who scored a total of 162 runs for just 70 balls. This mass total on board was the result of the partnerships of Phil Salt, Dawid Malan Jos Butler, and Liam Livingstone.

Sri-Lanka

Sri Lanka broke the record for highest record for the ODI total playing against the Netherlands at Amstelveen. They posted a total of 443/9 surpassing South Africa’s record of 438 from 2006. The innings started with an electric pace where Sanath Jayasuriya took to an individual score of 157 for 104 balls. Following his dismissal, Dilshan led the team and posted a score of 117 for 71 balls and remaining not out for the match.  The Sri Lankan team took to a mammoth score of 439 breaking the other highest score of South Africa in just a time of three months.

South Africa

South Africa is one of the teams that have multiple records for over 400 runs in the ODIs format. In the list of top 12 ODI highest team scores, South Africa is placed at 5 different spots. Making it as the team with the most Highest Score in ODIs.

Following were the times, when the team posted great scores on board just to win:

  • Playing against West Indies in Johannesburg on January 18, 2015, South Africa posted a total of 439/2 in 50 overs.
  • On March 12, 2006, playing against Australia in Johannesburg they secured victory where they chased down a target of 438/9 in 49.5 overs.
  • On October 25, 2015, South Africa posted 438/4 against India playing at the Wankhede and won the match.
  • On October 7, 2023, playing in Delhi, South Africa scored 428/5 against Sri Lanka.
  • On September 20, 2006, South Africa posted 418/5 in 50 overs against Zimbabwe in Potchefstroom and secured a victory.

India sits at number 11 in the ODI highest team score list, they posted this mammoth score just once in the top 12 nations list with the Highest Score in ODI. This score came when India was playing against West Indies in their tour to India. This was the match where not only did India put this big on the scoreboard they also got their Highest Individual Score in ODIs in the form of Virendra Sehwag who scored a total of 219 for 149 balls he played.  Winning this match with a difference of 153 runs, player of the match was awarded to Sehwag.

Australia

The team that ranks number in the Test Format is also behind in the list of countries with the highest ODI scores. Playing on the grounds of Perth in the ICC World Cup 2015, The Kangaroos posted a score of 434/4 against South Africa but ended with a loss as South Africa chased the score, posting their higher total of 438 on the board.

England, which tops the list of Top 12 Highest Score in ODIs, showcased its sheer dominance in the format with the highest score 498.
