When Gill stepped onto the field at Edgbaston as India’s Captain, he had a big task ahead of him. After a tough defeat in Leeds, critics questioned his leadership and form. But Gill answered to all in style on July 2, 2025, scoring an unbeaten 114 on day one of the second Test against England, and guided his team to a strong position at 310 for 5 stumps.

This century was his seventh Hundred in Test Cricket and his second of this series. Earlier, he had scored a brilliant 147 at Headingley, proving his ability to adapt and lead under pressure. At just 25 years old, Gill has already shown the mental toughness and skills that fans and experts look for in a future great, and undoubtedly he has delivered all in his first assignment as Captain. With this hundred, Gill has joined an exclusive club of Indian batters who have scored hundreds in consecutive Tests in England. He matched legends like Mohammad Azharuddin, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Rahul Dravid. And in addition to all this, he became only the second Indian Captain after Virat Kohli to score a century at Edgbaston.

Gill has emerged as a consistent performer for India in Test Cricket, registering seven impressive hundreds so far. Shubman Gill’s Test Hundred journey began with a fine 110 against Bangladesh in December 2022 at Chattogram, followed by a brilliant 128 against Australia in Ahmedabad. Gill continued improving his skill and tactics to continue scoring and as a result has 7 hundred so far, including the most recent one against England at Edgbaston.
