Although with no experience for the captaincy in longer format, Gill has performed impressively whenever given the captaincy in other formats and is familiar with the kind of pressure associated with the leadership.  He has won 4 out of 5 T20Is as a Captain against Zimbabwe and has led the team in IPL with 14 wins out of the 27 matches.
