India has been fortunate to witness several skilled wicketkeepers-batters over the years, players who have made valuable contributions not just behind the stumps, but also with the bat. From MS Dhoni’s iconic innings to Rishabh Pant’s aggressive hundreds, Indian wicketkeepers have played a key role in shaping the team’s Test cricket journey.  Today, we will look at the three Indian Wicketkeepers with the most Test centuries in Test Cricket.

Top Most Centuries By Wicketkeeper In Test

1. Rishabh Pant- 7 Centuries(58 Innings)

Rishabh Pant’s rise in Test cricket has been one of the most talked-about stories in recent years. Making his debut in 2018, Pant didn’t take long to make an impact; his first hundred came in challenging conditions in England, where he scored 114 in just his third match. Since then, Pant has built a reputation for scoring crucial runs under pressure. His career best 159 in Sydney, unbeaten, helped India win their first-ever Test series in Australia. He followed that up with important centuries in South Africa(100* at Cape Town), England(146 at Edgbaston), and at home against England in Ahmedabad.

In September 2024, Pant scored his sixth Test century, leveling with MS Dhoni’s tally in just 58 innings, compared to Dhoni’s 144. His ability to deliver in difficult conditions against top bowling attacks has set him apart as a modern-day match-winner and now a true Test Vice-Captain for the Indian Squad.

2. MS Dhoni- 6 centuries(144 Innings)

MS Dhoni, India’s former Test Captain and one of its most successful wicketkeeper-batters, scored six Test Centuries between 2005 and 2014. Known for his calm approach and powerful hitting, Dhoni started strong with a 148-run knock against Pakistan in just his 5th Test. One of his most memorable innings came in 2013 against Australia, when he scored 224 in Chennai, his only double hundred in Tests. Many of Dhoni’s hundreds came at home, often playing with the tail and guiding India to dominant wins. Although Dhoni retired from Test cricket in 2014, his consistency and leadership left a lasting legacy in Indian Cricket.

3. Wriddhiman Saha- 3 centuries (54 Innings)

Saha served as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper after MS Dhoni announced his retirement back in 2014 from Tests. He was known for his solid technique and reliable glove work, and also made useful contributions to Team wins with his bat. Saha scored three centuries in a Test. His first came in 2016 against the West Indies, where he batted for over five hours to score 104 runs. He later scored back-to-back hundreds against Bangladesh and Australia in 2017, both during key moments for India. Though he didn’t play as much as Dhoni or Pant, still his batting performances are among the list of Most Test Centuries by Indian Wicket Keepers.

India’s Test Cricket has been shaped by several standout performances from its wicketkeepers. While MS Dhoni set high standards during his decade-long career, Rishabh Pant has now matched him in centuries, doing so in fewer innings and often in testing conditions away from home. With age still on his side, Pant has an opportunity to go well beyond Dhoni’s record and draft a record as one of India’s finest wicketkeeper-batters in red-ball cricket.
