Rohit Sharma, regarded as one of the cleanest strikers of the ball and arguably the best ODI opener, has featured in many ICC events semi-finals for India, delivering some outstanding performances under pressure. The 37-year-old is all set to feature in one more semi-final against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on March 4. His ability to thrive on the big stage made him a key player for India in the first semi-final in Dubai.

The opening batter has been part of 10 ICC events semi-finals in the Cricket World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. In this article, we’ll discuss Rohit Sharma‘s record in the semi-finals of ICC tournaments.

Rohit Sharma played in his first-ever ICC event semi-final in the T20 World Cup 2007 against Australia, where he remained not out on 8 in 5 balls. In his second semi-final against Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy 2013, the top-order batter scored 33 runs off 50 balls, providing the team a stable start in the big match.

Rohit played his third ICC event semi-final in the T20 World Cup 2024, scoring 24 runs off just 13 balls against South Africa. He got out to Mitchell Johnson in his fourth semi-final in CWC 2015, scoring 34 runs off 48 balls.

In the 2016 T20 Cricket World Cup semi-final, Hitman gave an amazing start to the team with his 43-run innings against West Indies. One of his best semi-final innings came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where he scored a match-winning century against Bangladesh. Rohit remained unbeaten in a 265 chase, scoring 123* runs off 129 balls.

The CWC 2019 was one of the best World Cup campaigns for the batter, but he failed to impress in the semi-final against New Zealand and got out on just 1 run to Matt Henry. In this 8th semi-final, Rohit scored 27 runs off 28 balls against England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Similarly to 2019, the 2023 CWC was also great for Rohit, both as a leader and as a player. He gave a flying start to the team in the big semi-final against New Zealand. He scored quickfire 47 runs off just 29 balls in the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The Nagpur-born player played one of his best knockout innings in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 against England, scoring 57 runs off 39 balls. This was also one of the best innings of the tournament played under pressure on a difficult pitch to bat on.
