Vaibhav Suryavanshi joins BCCI’s Elite Training Program

The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is preparing 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi to become one of India’s future cricket stars. As senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are getting closer to retirement, the BCCI wants to ensure a smooth transition by training young talents like Vaibhav for International cricket. Vaibhav first caught attention with his incredible performance in IPL 2025, where he became the youngest player to score a century. He also impressed during India’s Under-19 tour of England, finishing as the top run scorer in the one-day series. Scoring 355 runs with an average of 71 and a strike rate of over 170. His aggressive batting style and natural talent have caught the attention of cricket fans and experts around the world.

BCCI invites Vaibhav Suryavanshi to join the special training program

On August 10, Vaibhav joined a special training program at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. This program is designed to improve his skills and prepare him for real-match situations and match pressure. His childhood coach, Manish Ojha, said the BCCI is focusing on grooming young players to fill the gap left by retiring senior stars. “BCCI is looking ahead. The senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, the next batch of youngsters must be fully ready. This training for Vaibhav is part of that process. We pick boys one by one and prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket,” said Ojha.

Although Vaibhav is strong in T20 and One-day matches, his performance in longer formats like red-ball cricket needs improvement. The goal of the training is to help him become consistent across all formats, aiming to make the most of his innings impactful.

Along with batting, the training also focuses on fitness and fielding to make Vaibhav a complete player. After finishing his training, Vaibhav will join the India Under-19 team for the upcoming matches, including the Australia A series and the next U-19 World Cup.
