A purple Cap is an award presented to bowlers who have finished the season with the greatest number of wickets in the respective season. The Purple Cap is the most important award of any season, along with the Orange Cap Winners award. 2025: Prasidh Krishna
In IPL 2025, Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans claimed the Purple Cap by taking 25 wickets in 15 matches. His consistent and impactful bowling, with an average of 19.52 and best figures of 4/41, played a pivotal role in his team’s success throughout the season
2024: Harshal Patel
Playing in the 2024 for the Punjab Kings, Harshal patel won the purple cap for the 2024 IPL season. He accomplished this milestone with 24 wickets and an economy rate of 9.73 with average of 19.88 in a total of 14 matches he played.
2023: Mohammed Shami
An Indian pacer was part of the Gujarat Squad in the IPL 2023 and playing on Titans front he took a total of 28 wickets in the season. Shami reached this milestone in 17 innings with a bowling average of 18.64 and economy rate of 8.03.
2022: Yuzvendra Chahal
Spinner Yuzi, Chahal emerged as the purple cap winner for the IPL 2022 Season. He won this with his impressive stats for the respective season. Playing on Rajasthan Royals squad, he took them down for a total of 27 times. With an average of 19.51 and an economy rate of 7.75, Chahal reached the milestone in just 17 matches.
2021: Harshal Patel
Playing on the Bangalore front, Harshal Patel won the prestigious purple cap of IPL 2021 Season. He clinched a total of 32 wickets, the highest by any player in IPL history. Patel had very economical innings the season, he had an average of 14.34 and economy rate of 8.14 for the season.

2020: Kagiso Rabada
Rabada, playing with Punjab in the 2020 season, was announced as the purple cap winner. He achieved this feat with a bowling average of 18.26 and an economy of 8.34 for the season’s average. Kagiso took a total of 30 wickets in 17 matches he played that season.
2019: Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir won the purple cap for 2019, he took a total of 26 wickets in 17 matches he played for the Chennai Super Kings. Playing for CSK, he took wickets with an average of 16.57 and an economy of 8.00.
2018: Andrew Tye
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2018 Season, Andrew Tye became the recipient of the Purple Cap. He took a total of 21 wickets in 14 matches of the season with an average of 18.66 and an economy of 8.00. He also achieved one of his best bowling averages of 4/16 in the same season.
2017 & 2016: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar achieved the purple cap for the two consecutive seasons in the IPL 2017 and 2016 season. In the year 2017, he took 26 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 14.19 and economy of 7.42. He also received the cap for 2016 year where he took 23 wickets.
2015, 2013: Dwayne Bravo
Playing on the Chennai Super Kings front, Bravo received the award for the purple cap in the 2015 edition of IPL. Dwayne took a total of 26 wickets the same season and received the award for the second time. Earlier in the IPL 2013 He took a total of 32 wickets in 18 matches with an economy of 7.95 and a bowling average of 15.53.
2014: Mohit Sharma
Mohit playing for the CSK has received the purple cap in the IPL 2014 edition. He took a total of 23 wickets for the CSK and delivered impressive stats with an average of 19.65 and economy of 8.39 in just 16 overs.

2012: Morne Morkel
Morne won the purple cap in 2012 while playing for the Delhi Capitals. He delivered these innings in 16 matches with an 18.12 average and 7.19 economy.
2011: Lasith Malinga
Malinga, while playing on the Mumbai side, has been awarded the purple cap of the 2011 edition. Malinga took a total of 28 wickets that season with an average of 13.39 and an economy rate of 5.95. He delivered impressive and amazing knocks that season.
2010: Pragyan Ojha
Ojha achieved this feat while playing for the Deccan Chargers. He took a total of 21 wickets in the season and bowled economical spells for his team, winning important matches of the season. Prgyan played a total of 16 matches and bowled with an average of 20.41 and an economy rate of 7.29.
2009: RP Singh
RP Singh has won the purple cap for the second edition of the league, he delivered knocks of 23 wickets in a total of 26 matches he played with a bowling average of 18.13 and economy rate of 6.98.
2008: Sohail Tanvir
The inaugural edition of the IPL and Sohail wrote himself in the history of records of the IPL. Sohail took 22 wickets for his team Rajasthan royals in just 11 matches. Emerging as the purple cap he won the award with the average of 12.09 and economy rate of 6.46. Besides this he also took a fifer in the season etching his name for another record in the IPL Record book.
