Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Mumbai Indians for the first match of their 2025 Campaign against their arch-rivals CSK on Sunday 23 March 2025 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Sky has been named as the season opener match Skipper for the Mumbai Indians in place of Hardik Pandya who is facing a match ban over a slower over-rate penalty. It will be the first doubleheader day of the IPL 2025 and a total of four teams will be looking for a promising start to their campaign eyeing on win in their favor.

In the pre-match conference ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Surya Kumar Yadav gave a hilarious response to the question of a reporter who asked how he would take control of the “Uncapped” MS Dhoni in their opening match. He first misunderstood taking it as “Umpires” but later on he laughed giving a sassy one-liner reply to the reporter.

When asked about the plans of controlling the uncapped player named Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the pre-match conference the one-time captain for Mumbai Indians first misunderstood the question calling it, “Control Who? Umpires?”. But later on, Upon explaining and hearing it properly, Sky was left in splits replying, “Has anyone ever been able to control Dhoni in so many years?”

” It’s always an excitement when you come to Chennai and watch him come out of the dressing room, it’s always a good thing. You learnt so many good things from him, and we still do whenever we get an opportunity we have a chat with him. I’m excited to see him again, but I will be leading against him so it will be a good challenge,” he added.

Dhoni who will be playing as an uncapped player in the IPL 2025 still bats with prowess and carries the potential to destroy opponents’ bowling order. Aged 43 he was retained by the franchise as an uncapped player for an amount of ₹4 Crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
