Smriti Mandhana smashes century in the Women ODI Tri -series final, becomes India’s leading century scorer

Smriti Mandhana scores 116 off 101 balls vs Sri Lanka, marking her 11th ODI ton. She now leads India in most centuries and most sixes in Women’s ODIs.

Facing Sri Lanka Women in the final clash of the ongoing ODI Tri-series between Sri Lanka, India, and South Africa Women, Smriti Mandhana smashed a century, bringing up her 11th hundred in the ODI. The final of the series was scheduled between India and Sri Lanka Women on Sunday at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Smashing 116 with just 101 balls, she set the tone for a commanding total on the scoreboard.

Winning the Toss, Indian Women opted to bat first and asked the home team to field. Mandhana opened with Pratika Rawal and built a partnership of 70 runs before Rawal was dismissed by Inoka Ranaweera. After this, Smriti took charge of the innings and smashed a hundred in style, hitting back-to-back fours on Chamari Athapaththu’s deliveries in the 31st over. Smashing another hundred now, Mandhana has made a record, registering the 11th century of the format.

The stylish left-hander made Sri Lanka pay for dropping her on 21, and she was involved in two big partnerships – 70 for the first wicket with Pratika Rawal and 120 for the second with Harleen Deol. Her innings was followed by attractive 40s from Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues as India ran up a massive total. 

Milestone achieved by Smriti Mandhana

Reaching her hundred in this ODI, Smriti marked her 11th century of the format, and she achieved this feat with the help of 15 boundaries and two sixes en route to a 101-ball 116. She now sits at the third spot on the list of women most Hundreds in the ODI women’s format after Meg Lanning and Suzie Bates. Smriti Mandhana is now the top century scorer for India in Women’s ODIs. Mithali Raj is second with six hundreds.

With her recent performance, she not only became the leading century scorer but also set a new record for hitting the most sixes by an Indian woman in ODIs. She now has 54 sixes and has surpassed Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh, who have 52 and 20 sixes in the format.
