Another twist has been added to the ongoing controversy of undue advantage of playing in Dubai for the Champions Trophy. But this time it’s none other than Men In Blue star performer, Mohammed Shami.
Shami admitted that playing all their matches at one venue is a definite advantage for the team and has helped the team to adapt better to the pitch condition. His remarks have opened new gates for controversy as the remarks contradict the remarks of Coach Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma.
Earlier Rohit and Gautam Gambhir had denied all controversial statements of undue advantage of playing on the same ground and India benefitting from the pitch conditions.
Mohammad Shami Contradictory Remarks
Post win against Australia, Shami acknowledged that playing at a single venue has benefited the team.
After delivering a winning 3/48 spell, Shami Said, “It is definitely an advantage to play at one venue. You understand the conditions and pitch behaviour much better. It has helped us a lot.”
His remarks have provided ammunition to players who have been criticizing the hybrid model adopted for the Indian team.
In Champions Trophy so far, Indian’s winning performance and Matches at single venues has been highly criticized by players around. Players like Rassie van der Dussen, Michael Atherton and Jos Butler Have made statements over India’s win and one venue ground advantage.
These remarks have been denied by the Indian skipper and Coach, whose remarks now stand in the contradicting side of Shami. Earlier, Rohit said, “This is not our home; this is Dubai. So, we don’t play so many matches here. This is new for us too.” Meanwhile, Gambhir added, “We haven’t practiced here even for a day. We practiced in the ICC Academy. The conditions there and here are 180 degrees different. Some people are just perpetual cribbers. So, I feel we didn’t have any undue advantage.”
