Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, 12 May 2025, through a social media post. Following the announcement, several former cricketers and fans poured in their reactions. One of the most emotional messages came from Sachin Tendulkar. Fans have always compared Virat and Sachin as legends of different eras. In his message, Sachin praised Kohli’s career and also shared a sweet memory from 12 years ago when Virat offered him a special gift during Sachin’s last Test match.

Virat Kohli has played a total of 123 Tests—68 of them as captain for India—scoring 9230 runs with an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He is regarded as one of India’s best Test captains and is credited with changing the attitude and culture of the team during his leadership.

It was something too personal for me to accept, but the gesture was heartwarming and has stayed with me ever since. While I may not have a thread to offer in return, please know that you carry my deepest admiration and very best wishes.

Your true legacy, Virat, lies in inspiring countless young cricketers to pick up the sport. What an incredible Test career you have had! You have given Indian cricket so much more than just runs – you have given it a new generation of passionate fans and players. Congratulations on a very special Test career.”
