1998: Jacques Kallis

This South African player has been awarded the player of the tournament award for the inaugural season. Playing the tournament like no one. Kallis has shown versatility and the best ODI performances during the tournament. Having scored a ton of runs for the team during the league, Kallis won this award with a score of 164 runs and 8 wickets for his team.

2000: Chris Cairns

Chris Cairns playing on the black caps side helped them win the title for the year and was awarded the player of the tournament. Batting in the final of the game, he played a knock of 102 off 113 balls, unbeaten. Batting first, India posted a total of 264, and on the chasing part, the Black Caps needed 265, but that run chase fell short when Chris spelled magic on the field with his bat. It wasn’t just runs he fetched; he delivered economical spells and bowled 10 overs for just 40 runs.

2002: No-One

This year, no player was awarded the player of the tournament and was the only time when that happened. The season shared a trophy, keeping trophies to both nations, Sri Lanka and India.

2004: Ramnaresh Sarwan

This West Indies player has been awarded as the player of the series for the ICC Champions Trophy 2004. The final of the series was played on the grounds of the Oval. Ramnaresh Sarwan won the player of the series award, having scored 166 runs for the Indies team.

2006: Chris Gayle

The Champions Trophy innings has been spectacular and the player of the tournament was awarded to Chris Gayle for the particular season.  Having scored a total of 474 runs and also caught 8 wickets for their team. This West Indies player has been a horror throughout the series.

2009: Ricky Ponting

The Australian player who led the team to the final innings and finally won the trophy was much deserving of the Player of the tournament award for the Champions Trophy 2009 season. Ponting was awarded with it because of the contribution the player made to the team. He scored a total of 288 runs for the Aussies in the series and was also awarded the Gold Bat.

2013: Shikhar Dhawan

Playing the final of the season, India was against England at the Birmingham stadium. Starting with bat, the team posted a total of 129 in the final, and in the chasing end, England couldn’t manage the score, and it ended up short of 5 runs. For this win, no other person was responsible than Shikhar Dhawan, playing strong throughout the tournament. Shikhar held it strong and contributed a total of 363 runs in the season.

2017: Hasan Ali

After winning the Champions trophy in the previous season, the men in blue were up against Pakistan for another trophy at the oval Ground. But couldn’t win and lost the series with a huge loss of 180 runs to Pakistan. Leading the team to finals Hasan played a pivotal role in the team’s performance since the beginning and hence was awarded with the player of the tournament of the series. He contributed a total of 12 wickets for the Men In Green, with three wickets straight off the Final match.
