Punjab Kings, who started the season with a bang and back-to-back wins, showed that they have entered the season with the intent of making it their season. But then the team got a bit off the winning track and lost their game against the Rajasthan Royals, and SRH even after putting up a mammoth total of 245.

And now facing Kolkata Knight Riders at their own home ground has registered themselves in unwanted record. Punjab Kings locked horns against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Winning toss Shreyas led Punjab opted to bat first and Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran opened the batting partnership whereas on the other end  Vaibhav Arora opened the attack on KKR part.

Both the opening batters tried to build a partnership but failed to develop a big score on the board. First, Priyansh Arya was caught off and then KKR dominated with back-to-back wickets in the powerplay. From 39/0 in 3.1 overs Punjab Kings lost their top order in mere 2 overs, where they slipped to 54.4 at the end of the 6th over.

Winning the Toss, Punjab Kings decided to change their approach and opted to bat first. After a quickfire start from the openers, Punjab Kings collapsed dramatically to be bowled out for just 111, making it their third lowest against KKR in IPL history. It all started with Nitish Rana taking three wickets in his first couple of overs, and all three of them were caught by Ramandeep, including a brilliant one of Shreyas Iyer. The mystery spinners, Narine and Chakaravarthy, dismantled the middle and lower order, leaving the batters clueless. Maxwell and Inglis were bowled by Chakaravarthy’s googlies, capping off a disappointing batting display by the home team after choosing to bat first.
