India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has returned to intense training as he prepares for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. After undergoing surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany, Yadav started batting practice at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This is his first cricket activity since the surgery, which has started talks around his fitness and has given fans hope of his return to the Asia Cup India squad.

SKY to lead India in the Asia Cup 2025

The Asia Cup 2025 is set to begin on September 9, 2025, in the United Arab Emirates. India will face UAE, Pakistan, and Oman in the group stage. Suryakumar’s return is important because he will lead the team as a captain in his first major tournament after taking over the role from Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20 international cricket in 2024.

Yadav has been focusing on strength-building and fitness to handle the tough schedule ahead, which will include back-to-back matches. He recently shared a video on social media showing himself batting and working out, expressing his excitement to get back on the field. The final decision on his participation will depend on medical clearance, and India’s squad is expected to be announced in the third week of August.

Suryakumar Yadav has a strong record in T20 cricket. He has scored 2,598 runs in 83 matches, maintaining a high rate of 167.07. He is close to reaching several milestones, including becoming the first player to score 3,000 runs with a strike rate above 160. If fit, SKY will not only lead India but could break records during the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup will be a key tournament for India as they prepare to defend their title at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026. Along with Asia Cup action, Team India will have an upcoming T20 series against Australia and South Africa later in 2025. For now, all eyes will be on NCA’s clearance and SKY’s recovery as the team gears up for the busy T20 season.
