Dravid’s journey with Rajasthan Royals

Dravid joined the Royals as a head coach for the 2025 season after completing his tenure as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, where he led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title. His return to the IPL was seen as a full-circle moment, as he had represented the Royals as a player from 2011 to 2015 and had also contributed as a mentor during those years.

During the 2025 IPL season, the Royals struggled under Dravid’s guidance, managing to win only four of the 14 matches and finishing ninth on the points table. Despite the disappointing results, Dravid was praised for his work with young talent and for fostering a disciplined team environment. He helped instill strong values within the squad and guided emerging players, leaving a lasting impact on the franchise’s culture.

The timing of Dravid’s exit also coincides with reports that former captain Sanju Samson is considering leaving the franchise. With Dravid stepping down, the Royals are now expected to explore new coaching options ahead of the 2026 season.
