Following the departure of Jason Gillespie, the Pakistan Cricket Board is on the hunt for a new Head coach for the team. The board posted a formal advertisement for the post on its website on Saturday for the recruitment and is looking for someone to fill the shoes of the interim head coach, Aqib Javed.
PCB appointed Aqib Javed as the interim coach and was looking for a new permanent head coach all the time, but with the deadline of Aqib’s tenure, PCB has officially posted an advertisement to find the best man for the job.As per the details, a level-qualified coach with a minimum of 10 years of experience coaching national or domestic-level cricket teams is required for the Pakistan cricket team.
Mike Hesson to be the new Head Coach
In the latest development, reports have confirmed that Mike Hesson is the front-runner for the position and will likely take the role after the conclusion of PSL 2025, the Tenth edition. The reports also suggest that the former RCB Director has been approached by the PCB quite a few times, including an offer last year. But Mike turned down the offer due to his prior commitments.
As per cricketpakistan, talks have taken place between PCB and the former Director of Cricket of RCB. Hesson also happens to be managing Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League currently. Having guided Islamabad United to the PSL title last season, the former New Zealand cricketer is well-versed with Pakistan cricket.
According to insiders, former Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq was also being considered, but Hesson appears to be the frontrunner at this stage. The PCB is once again leaning towards hiring a foreign head coach, as the pool of eligible local candidates remains limited.
Conditions for the Head Coach
The board has specified that applicants must hold a Level 3 coaching certification, and the deadline for submissions is May 4.
