South Africa has bounced back strongly against Australia in the ongoing ODI series, thanks to an outstanding performance by their bowler, Lungi Ngidi. After losing the recent T20I series to Australia, the Proteas quickly turned the tables and secured a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, showing resilience and teamwork.

In the second ODI, South Africa set a target of 278 runs after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Matthew Brretzke and Tristian Stubbs were the main contributors for the team, where the two added half-centuries each. Breetzke scored 88 runs, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes, while Stubbs added 74 runs with 3 fours and a six. Their partnership stabilized the innings after early wickets, and with contributions from other players, South Africa reached 277 runs in 49.1 overs.

Strong Batting Partnerships led the Proteas to an ODI series win.

Breetzke and Stubbs’s partnership was the key to building a competitive total. After South Africa lost early wickets, their calm and consistent batting helped the team recover and gain momentum. Additional support from Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj ensured that South Africa set a challenging target for Australia.

Chasing the target, Australia struggled from the beginning. They lost key players like Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and captain Mitchell Marsh early in the innings, leaving the team under pressure. Cameron Green and Josh Inglis tried to build momentum but could not lead the team to the total set by the Proteas.

Lungi Ngidi was the star of the match with his fast bowling. He took five crucial wickets, including those of Inglis, Labuschagne, Hardie, Bartlett, and Zampa, finishing with figures of 8.4 overs, 1 maiden, 42 runs, and 5 wickets. His performance put South Africa in control of the match and ultimately secured a comfortable win over the hosts. Earlier than this, spin bowler Keshav Maharaj had helped South Africa win the first ODI by 98 runs.

With this win, South Africa has not only taken a strong 2-0 lead but also avenged their T20I series loss just six days ago. The final match of the ODI series will be played on August 24, giving Australia a chance to redeem themselves and save some respect, but with the current Proteas form, they look ready to take on the hosts one-sidedly.
