Gujarat Titans star pacer Kagiso Rabada abruptly left midway through the Indian Premier League, with no official reason being initially disclosed. At the time, the Franchise released a statement citing “personal matters” as the cause of his departure. However, in a recent revelation, Rabada has admitted failing a drug test and confirmed that he is currently facing a provisional ban from the IPL 2025.
The 29-year-old bowler returned to South Africa nearly a month ago following the incident. Now, in an unexpected twist, it has been reported that Kagiso Rabada’s sudden withdrawal from IPL 2025 was allegedly not due to personal matters, contrary to earlier reports. A new claim from Rapport reveals that Rabada flew back to South Africa after being flagged for the use of a banned substance.
Insiders suggest that the substance was not aimed at boosting performance but was used for relaxation. Although it doesn’t provide any direct competitive benefit, it still falls under the list of prohibited substances outlined in the sport’s anti-doping guidelines.
I am serving a Provisional Suspension, says Rabada
Rabada released a statement on Saturday and asked for forgiveness from his fans and supporters for letting them down. And he also stated that he won’t take the privilege of playing cricket for granted
“As has been reported, I recently returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons. This was due to my returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug.
“I am deeply sorry to all that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.”
