Sri Lankan all-rounder, Angelo Mathews has announced his retirement on Monday and has updated his fans about his farewell from the red ball format. He announced his retirement through a social media post, where he wrote, “The first test match against Bangladesh in June will be my last red-ball appearance for my country. Whilst I bid adieu to the test format, as discussed with selectors, I will remain available for selection for the white ball format, if and when my country needs me.”
Mathews made his Test Debut in the year 2004 against Pakistan, and now, after 17 years, he has announced his retirement from the format. In his long span of career, Angelo has smashed a lot of runs with a total of 16 Test centuries and 45 half-centuries. His maiden century came against Australia in the Sinhalese Sports Ground in September 2011, and taking on from there, the legend has smashed another 15 Test centuries before he decided to end his career in the year 2025.

Angelo has played a total of 118 Tests and has scored 16 centuries in those matches. His journey has been a fairly good average of 44.62 and has recorded a highest of 200 in the year 2018 against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. His peak years came between 2013 and 2015, when he scored 2,378 runs at an average of 59.45, largely batting in the lower middle order. Along with this he has multiple centuries against other strong sides like England, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
