Australian Star Alex Carey is set to miss the Pakistan Super League and will not be joining Islamabad United for the HBL PSL season 10. Confirming the news, the franchise stated that the Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has opted out of the tournament and will not be seen in the defending champions’ squad for the 2025 season.
Islamabad United who are set to start their tournament today have lost their main player right before the clash. Carey was roped in as a partial replacement for South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen, who is yet to arrive in Pakistan. Islamabad United management expressed understanding over the development and confirmed that Rassie van der Dussen is expected to rejoin the squad soon.
“Alex Carey will not be part of our campaign this season as his team has made it to the domestic final in Australia. We wish him the best. Meanwhile, Rassie van der Dussen will be joining our team soon,” the franchise stated.
Islamabad United will start their PSL 2025 campaign against Lahore Qalandars today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After Carey opted out, the Shadab Khan-led side will look forward to van der Dussen’s return, as confirmed by the franchise.
Earlier than news of Carey, Kane Williamson was also reported to miss the Initial matches of the PSL season. He was picked up by the Karachi Kings after being unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025.
Pakistan Super League 2025
PSL 2025 will witness 34 matches between six teams scheduled to take place from April 11 to May 18. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host 13 matches of the tournament, including two Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi will host 11 matches, with the first Qualifier set for May 13, while five matches each will be played in Karachi and Multan.
