New Zealand Announces the ODI Squad against Pakistan, Tom Latham to lead the bilateral series

NZ announces ODI squad for Pakistan series starting March 29 – With a 3-0 T20I series lead, the Kiwis aim to dominate ODIs despite missing key players.

Amongst the glory of IPL, New Zealand has announced its 13-member ODI squad against Pakistan for the bilateral ODI series going to start soon from 29 March 2025. Tom Latham is set to lead the KIWI side against the Men in Green with other key players busy in the Indian Premier League and was picked from a group of eight contenders to lead the series. While many are busy with prior IPL commitments some of the key players including pacers Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson will miss the series facing injury concerns.

New Zealand announced their squad against Pakistan for a three match ODI series and Tom Latham has been picked as the captain for the series in absence of Mitchell Santer.

Top-order batter, Nick Kelly has received his first-ever national call following his impressive season at Plunket Shield season where he amassed a total of 749 runs including four centuries. Along with Nick, Muhammad Abbas also made it to the squad, He was also part of the New Zealand A squad that faced Australia A last year. Additionally, Adi Ashok makes his return to the squad after a two-year absence. 

Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman and Will O’Rourke will continue to be the key members of the side with bowling all-rounder Latham Smith returning to the fold for the ODIs.

Talking about the selections, “With a group of regular ODI players unavailable, we have a selected group of high-potential players who are now ready for opportunities at international level.With the next ICC ODI pinnacle event still two and half years away, the series is a perfect opportunity to introduce, or re-introduce in the case of Adi, these players to international cricket now,” Wells said. 

“Nick has been the standout domestic batsman the last few seasons. He is a dynamic strokemaker with power, and he can bat anywhere in the top six.    

“Mo is one of our most promising young batters and he also provides a sixth bowling option which is required in the absence of Rachin [Ravindra] and Glenn [Phillips].”
