In the major development around the team, the England women’s team has announced a new captain. All-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt is named as the Captain following Heather Knight’s departure. Nat, who previously served as the team’s vice captain, will take over the leadership role upon her return from maternity leave, ahead of the upcoming series against West Indies and India.

Her appointment was confirmed on Tuesday by the England and Wales Cricket board, who announced Charlotte Edwarda as the new head coach, replacing Jon Lewis.

“I’m really Proud,” Nat on leadership

“I’m really proud to take on the role of captain of the England women’s team and it’s an honour to have been asked by Charlotte, someone I’ve always looked up to,” Sciver-Brunt said. “Ever since I made my England debut back in 2013, all I’ve wanted to do is help the team in every way I can.”

“We have a really talented group, and we have a group that’s united. It’s a team I believe in and a team that can have a lot of success together. It’s hugely exciting to be working with Charlotte having had the pleasure of working with her in the last three years at Mumbai Indians. Her love of cricket and passion for the England Women’s team is inspiring and I’m excited to see where this partnership leads us,” the 32-year-old added.

Nat Sciver-Brunt recently made history by becoming the first player to score over 500 runs in a single WPL season and the first to cross 1,000 WPL runs. She has previously captained England in international matches, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games. A 2017 World Cup winner, Sciver-Brunt has represented England 259 times, averaging over 45 in both Tests and ODIs, and has taken 181 international wickets.

Nat will take on the team once she returns from her maternity leave, and her first assignment as captain will begin on May 21, when England will host West Indies for three T20 Internationals and three One-day series, and then will team against a multi-format series against India.
