MS Dhoni Takes Over CSK Captaincy After Ruturaj Gaikwad Suffers Elbow Fracture

Former Captain, MS Dhoni, will return to helm the duties of the Chennai Super Kings captain as the current Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the season with an elbow injury. Dhoni will now lead the team for the remaining season as the captain, as confirmed by the CSK’s head Coach, Stephen Fleming. Fleming confirmed the development. Gaikwad sustained the blow when he was hit by a short ball from Jofra Archer.

“So we’re disappointed and feel for him. We appreciate the efforts that he’s gone to in terms of trying to play, but unfortunately, he’d be out of the tournament from now on. We have an uncapped player, MS Dhoni, who will take over as captain for the remainder of the IPL,” he added.

Releasing an official statement, Chennai Super Kings announced the new captain for the remaining season and named MS Dhoni to lead the team. Dhoni will now lead the team in the remaining CSK tournament and will face Kolkata Knight Riders as his first clash as official CSK Captain for IPL 2025

“Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of the season due to a hairline fracture of the elbow. MS Dhoni to lead,” the CSK said in an official statement. MS Dhoni led the team last in the IPL 2023 season and then passed the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad after winning the season.

Dhoni is one of the most successful IPL captains, having led the franchise to five title wins, making CSK one of the most celebrated teams in the Indian Premier League history. Now, taking on the leadership duties, Dhoni will begin his new stint as Captain against Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite his successful career stint, he may find himself under a bit of pressure this time. So far, CSK hasn’t found its rhythm this season, having lost four out of their five matches and still searching for stability.

The 43-year-old will replace Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain from the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (April 11) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
