Bangladesh Board announced Litton Das as their new captain for the T20 format. On Sunday, the board made an announcement and stated that Litton Das will lead the team in T20Is until the next World Cup. He will now be filling in the post after Hossain Shanto stepped down as the team’s captain due to a hectic schedule as national captain.
Along with this, the BCB also announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming T20I series in the UAE and Pakistan. Considering new responsibilities, this will mark the first assignment of Das as a full-time player in the T20I format.
Although Litton has previously captained Bangladesh in a Test match, seven ODIs, and four T20Is, this marks the first occasion he’s been appointed as the team’s full-time skipper in any format. The 30-year-old had to miss the PSL 2025 season, where he was signed with Karachi Kings, due to a finger injury sustained during training. However, he has now fully recovered.
BCB cricket operation chairman Najmul Abedin said they have chosen Litton with a long-term plan in mind. “Litton Das will lead the side until the T20 World Cup next year. For Litton, experience has been an important factor. We don’t have many experienced players in the current setup. While there were discussions about his form, we believe he has the potential. If he can organize his game, he’ll be an asset to the team.” alongside Litton, Mahedi Hasan has been named as vice-captain for the next two T20I Series.
While Litton Das continues his recovery from a recent finger injury, team officials remain hopeful he’ll be match-ready before the series begins. Tasked with leading the national side, Litton steps into a pivotal leadership role as Bangladesh gears up for the T20 World Cup next year.
Bangladesh squad for T20Is in UAE and Pakistan
BCB announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming T20Is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan, where Litton will lead the team full-time captain. Litton, more importantly, needs to lead from the front as Bangladesh is going through a transition period with many senior cricketers no longer part of the national set-up.
