S Shreesanth, one of the most controversial figures in Indian cricket, has been suspended by the Kerala Cricket Association for making “defamatory remarks” against the state board. Notably, Shreesant made pro-Sanju Samson statements when the Kerala batter was dropped by the state’s Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy squad this year.
KCA suspended Sreesanth for 3 years
According to The Hindu, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has imposed a three-year ban on S Sreesanth. This decision was taken in a meeting held in Kochi on 30 April 2025. Additionally, the board has filed a compensation claim against Sanju Samson’s father and three others for making baseless claims in Sanju’s name. Notably, Sreesanth is a co-owner of Kollam Aeries, a franchise cricket team that plays in the Kerala Cricket League.
“Since the franchise teams gave satisfactory responses to the notices, no further action will be taken against them. However, the meeting decided to advise greater caution when appointing members to team management,” the statement said.

Sreesanth on the suspension
“They (KCA) take players from other states to play for us. For what? Disrespectful to our Malayali cricketers. We have just one player at international level, Sanju. Let’s all support him,” Sreesanth had told Onmanorama.
The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) responded by saying that Sreesanth was not fully aware of the current situation in Kerala cricket. They also mentioned that he had not been officially cleared of the IPL spot-fixing case. Because of this, the board felt that he was not in a position to defend or speak for any Kerala player.
The KCA further added that they had shown a positive attitude by giving Sreesanth a chance to play in the Ranji Trophy after his ban ended. They believed this gesture showed their support, even though he had been involved in past controversies.
“This shows he is unaware of Kerala cricket. The court dismissed criminal proceedings in the case but it remains a fact that he has not been acquitted in the spot-fixing allegation. Such a Sreesanth need not offer protection to Kerala Cricket Association’s players,” a statement from the KCA read.
