IPL 2025: Shardul Thakur to feature in for LSG after being unsold in Auction

Shardul Thakur, who was unsold in the IPL Mega Auction last year, can feature in the IPL with Lucknow Super Giants. As the cricketer has recently been spotted practicing along with Rishabh Pant in the team practice sessions.

It was shocking to see that the experience holder went unsold for the IPL 2025 Auction couldn’t attract any bidders and wasn’t even tried to be retained by the Franchise. He earlier had an IPL Career stint with CSK was released by the franchise for the auction pool. 

Could Shardul Thakur and LSG be the next big IPL deal?

A few pictures of the cricketer are going viral on the internet where the bowler is seen practicing in the nets with an LSG Jersey on him. Ahead of the IPL Season, Shardul was spotted training at the team’s camp on Sunday.

With news of him practicing in the nets, it could be a big boost for the Giants team as the team is currently in middle of the player crisis with Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan being injured and waiting for NCA approval for a green flag to play in the IPL, Guessing over his presence it looks like Lucknow Giants have signed up the all-rounder.

Although there is no official confirmation that him being in the team for the upcoming IPL 2025 Season, it might be expected that he could join the franchise amidst the player injuries.

Shardul Thakur and IPL Career

Shardul made his IPL Debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2015 and also played with them in the last IPL 2024. Ahead of the IPL 2025, He was released by the franchise, and to add more shock, he failed to attract any bidders and remained unsold for the IPL 2205.

Shardul has played a total of 25 IPL matches and has taken a total of 94 wickets for the Franchise in the IPL. Achieving his best bowling figure of 4/36 he has also shown strength with the bat where he has accumulated a total of 307 runs in his career stint with CSK.

How can Shardul make an Impact in LSG?

LSG is currently going under player injuries, and the main players of the squad are injured. Their bowlers – Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan are yet to get fitness clearance from the BCCI and are in the middle of the doubts for their participation.

Shardul’s rejection at the auction didn’t let him down but boosted his confidence. The player performed exceptionally well in the domestic tournament. He picked 35 wickets for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and took 15 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.  With Shardul in form, the Franchise can prepare for their tournament opener against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
