The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League has been called off mid-season, due to ongoing India-Pakistan security concerns. The decision around the suspension came after a few hours when the Match 58 of the IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was terminated due to security concerns mid-way. The officials called off the match at the HPCA ground on Thursday, and later that night, on Friday BCCI announced that the Remainder of the Indian Premier League has been suspended temporarily for one week. The decision has been taken amidst the Indian Pakistan border tension and war-like conditions.
The decision was made after Pakistan launched attacks along the border, and India responded strongly. The situation caused panic in Dharamsala, where the entire stadium was put under a blackout. All spectators were quickly evacuated for safety. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal was seen at the venue, urging everyone to leave immediately. Reports also suggest that a special train was arranged to safely transport the players out of the area. The situation is getting extreme, and to avoid any mishap and keep the good intentions of all the stakeholders, the BCCI has rolled out the suspension of the league.
IPL 2025 is set to resume following a fresh schedule released by the BCCI and IPL Governing Council on Tuesday. The updated itinerary features 17 matches spread across six venues, with the final now slated for June 3—postponed by a week from its initial date. The previously halted match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala will now be fully replayed in Jaipur.
When will IPL 2025 Resume?
But now that the 18th edition has been suspended mid-way, fans are wondering when the IPL 2025 will resume, and the cricketing action will finally take to the fields between franchises. But it seems like the remainder of the season will not have to wait longer, as now, with the new updates, IPL has been suspended for a week and will resume afterwards. IPL 2025 will resume this week on Saturday (May 17) with a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, the BCCI confirmed on Monday (May 12). A total of 17 matches will be held across six venues with the final scheduled to be played on June 3.
IPL 2025 Reschedule dates: Where, if at all, can the IPL fit in?

More details regarding the new updated dates and venues will be announced soon. And if the tournament takes longer to start, then it will be a problem as in Mid June Indian Team is scheduled to tour England for test series and following it, the schedule of the Men In Blue is tightly packed leaving no room for the early beginning.

India’s Packed calendar leaves almost no open window for the resumption of the IPL 2025 in the coming months. With a packed schedule in June, July and in August, there is no window for the IPL 2025. This will be followed by the Asia Cup in the month of September but with Pakistan’s participation confirmed and rising political tensions, India is expected to boycott the tournament.
As a result, there is are high chance that the Asia Cup could be called off. If that happens, September may become the only possible window to host the remainder of IPL 2025. While there’s no official confirmation yet, the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League could potentially conclude in September, and a winner might be crowned then, assuming the situation allows for a resumption.
IPL 2025 Re-Schedule Venue
The revised schedule includes only two double headers, both on Sundays. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator are scheduled to be played on May 29 and 30 respectively. The second qualifier will be played on June 1.
While there were reports that the rest of the tournament could be completed in the three southern venues – Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru – the board has zeroed in on Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai and Ahmedabad instead apart from Bengaluru.
It’s also worth noting that the abandoned game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on May 8 will be replayed in Jaipur on May 24.
