IPL 2025: Punjab Kings sign Mitchell Owen to replace injured Glenn Maxwell

Punjab Kings have announced the replacement of Glenn Maxwell for the remainder of the IPL 2025. On Sunday, Punjab announced the signing of the all-rounder Mitchell Owen on their social media through a post, saying, “UPDATE: Mitchell Owen replaces Glenn Maxwell for the rest of #TATAIPL 2025 season.”

Glen Maxwell has been ruled out for the remainder IPL due to injury, and the management has decided to move with Mitchell Owen. Mitchell comes from Tasmania and rose to fame during the Big Bash League last season, where he helped his team Hurricanes to a win against the Sydney Thunder. He smashed a century and scored 108 off just 42 balls.

IPL also confirmed the player’s replacement and said, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have picked all-rounder Mitch Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a broken finger.

Who is Mitchell Owen?

Mitch Owen, from Tasmania, Australia, is a right-handed batsman and also a right-arm pacer. He has many cricketing stints under his belt and has come in the limelight in the 2024/25 Big Bash League, where he smashed a century and scored 108 runs in just 42 balls. He has played 34 T20s and scored 646 runs, including two centuries and a highest score of 108. The Australian all-rounder also has 10 T20 wickets to his name.

Mitchell will join Punjab Kings after he finishes his term with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. He went unsold in the mega auction but now Punjab has signed him for 3 Crores. He will be travelling to India either in the second week of May or after the PSL final ceremony on 18 May, 2025.

PBKS head Ricky Ponting, who has been closely following Mitchell Owen, has backed him earlier to replace Mitchell Marsh in the Australian squad for the Champions Trophy.
