The most anticipated cricket festival of Indian Cricket is set to begin on  22 March with the opening match between the defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challenger Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.

However, the much-awaited curtain raiser match is going under weather scrutiny. Recent development around the match indicates that the rain could force the abandonment of the season opener match. The weather department has issued an orange alert for the match and given the recent forecasts, the opening ceremony and match are at risk of being completely abandoned and disrupted by Thunderstorms.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert forecasting thunderstorms and rain from Thursday to Sunday over south Bengal, including that of Kolkata, where the opening match of the 18th edition is set to occur.

Weather Forecast: Rain Likely to Wash Out KKR vs RCB

According to the weather forecast, there are around 74% chances of rain on the season’s opening match day, leading up to 90% chances of rain until the match starts. The rain conditions are forecasted with cloud cover of 97%, which puts a strong possibility of the match being abandoned.

This weather update from the weather department puts a thundering question mark over the future of the opening match. If the forecast and rain come as announced then the match will likely move for an abandonment giving KKR and RCB equal points for the match
